The design explores scaffolding as a strategy for expanding Gulf Tower beyond its existing footprint. Rather than treating the tower as a fixed and complete object, the scaffolding becomes an adaptable architectural framework that attaches to and extends the existing structure. New galleries, circulation paths, and public spaces are integrated within this framework, creating opportunities for people to move through, occupy, and experience the tower in new ways. The addition creates a dialogue between the historic building and a contemporary layer, allowing Gulf Tower to evolve while maintaining its identity within Pittsburgh’s skyline.
